As expected, official results from Mozambique’s election show ruling party candidate Daniel Chapo winning the presidential election. The opposition says the poll was rigged and is calling for protests.

Mozambique's ruling party, Frelimo, has retained power in presidential and parliamentary elections – extending its five-decade rule as the opposition accused it of fraud and held protests in several cities.

Daniel Chapo of the Frelimo party, which has governed the southern African nation for nearly 50 years, was declared the victor amid violence and widespread allegations of fraud.
