President Donald Trump's first tasks as he takes office included signing executive orders to roll back protections for transgender people and end federal government diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

There’s still uncertainty on what President Trump’s orders to rollback transgender protections will entail. One order declares the federal government will recognize only two sexes: male and female. In another order, Trump revoked protections for transgender military personnel that President Joe Biden had signed.

Trump will sign a pair of executive orders on gender and diversity programs after he takes the oath of office. The new orders are part of a larger plan to remake government policy on issues such as the economy and immigration with the president’s pen.
