A depression over the Bay of Bengal has turned into a deep depression on Tuesday and is likely to transform into a cyclonic storm in a few years hitting the Odisha-West Bengal coast on October 25

The India Meteorological Department issues a cyclone warning for the Bay of Bengal, citing a severe cyclonic storm named Dana. The storm is expected to hit north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island,

Dana is likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port with wind speeds up to 120 kmph.

The India Meteorological Department said in its forecast, "…the system is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and early morning October 25 as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph with gusting 120 kmph.

More than a million people have been evacuated from 14 districts in Odisha, and over 300,000 people have been evacuated from coastal areas in West Bengal. Rescue teams and officials from both states are on alert.

As the weather goes from bad to worse, those unwilling to shift to the safety of shelter houses are not taking any chances, cooperating with the officials in the evacuation process.
