Urshela, 33, was a February signing by the Detroit Tigers last offseason, and the team released him on Aug. 18. The Atlanta Braves signed him two days later, and his .711 OPS with them the rest of the way was nearly 100 points higher than it was with the Tigers.

In each of the last two offseasons, the Toronto Blue Jays have struck out on landing their top outside targets. They fell short in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes in 2023 and fell short in the Juan Soto race this year.

A major extension for superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would certainly qualify. The suggestion in the report is that an extension in the $500 million to $600 million ballpark is a "realistic" target.

Toronto clearly has a lot of money to spend and has tried to bring fellow superstars to town. The Blue Jays have missed out on both Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto with historic offers. Money should not be an issue if the team wants to keep Vladimir Guerrero Jr. around for the foreseeable future.
