President Jimmy Carter’s legacy of giving back endures in several nonprofits through which he and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, worked in the almost 50 years after they left the White House.

Former President Jimmy Carter, who will be laid to rest in a Jan. 9 funeral, and Rosalynn Carter fell in love, raised a family and spent most of their 77 years of marriage living in Plains, Ga.

Thursday's service will cap off six days of remembrance for Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100. After the funeral, Carter will return to Georgia to be buried in his hometown of Plains, next to his beloved wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter.
