Russia early Wednesday morning launched a drone strike on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, injuring no fewer than three people and damaging buildings in two districts. City officials said explosions boomed across the morning sky shortly after Ukraine’s air force warned of drones approaching the city.

In a battle near Cape Tarkhankut on Crimea's west coast on Tuesday, a Magura V5 maritime drone equipped with missiles hit a Russian Mi-8 helicopter, Ukraine's GUR spy agency said on Telegram. GUR said it was the first time a Ukrainian naval drone had downed an air target.

Ukraine’s intelligence service said a naval drone had struck down a Russian military helicopter for the first time and forced another one to return to an airfield after being hit.

Russia launched an aerial attack on Ukraine, striking the capital and other regions with multiple missiles and drones.

Kyiv posted a video of an explosion at the site in Ukraine's southern region and said it killed at least six Russian personnel.

One of the drones flew back to Russia and another to Belarus. The drones were launched from Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, Bryansk and Orel oblasts, as well as from occupied Crimea. Earlier, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported thatat least four people had been injured in a Russian drone attack on the Ukrainian capital on the first day of the New Year.
