A federal judge dismissed the claims against Tarrant County and six of the named jailers, but nine defendants remain.

The Tarrant County sheriff’s office has notified the public of the year’s first in-custody death at the county jail Saturday. The inmate, whose identity has yet to be reported publicly by the county medical examiner’s office, died at John Peter Smith Hospital two days after attempting suicide, according to a news release.

The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office says an inmate died after an attempted suicide over the weekend. According to the sheriff's office, the 36-year-old was booked into the jail on Feb. 4 and died at John Peter Smith Hospital on Feb. 8 "following complications from an attempted suicide."

A U.S. district judge dismissed the claims against Tarrant County in the civil case brought by the family of Anthony Johnson Jr., who was killed at the county jail in April, according to the ruling issued Friday.
