A new warning has been issued for four northern counties ahead of another Status Orange warning coming into effect on Wednesday evening

A fresh yellow warning for snow and ice has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland from Wednesday afternoon until Thursday morning. The warning is in place for counties Antrim, Londonderry, Fermanagh, and Tyrone from 16:00 GMT until 11:00 GMT.

Ireland is in the midst of a cold snap, with "significant accumulations" of snow expected to fall this weekend. The brutally bitter weather conditions are expected to last until the end of next week, prompting Met Eireann to issue a number of weather warnings this weekend.

Ireland is enduring a severe cold snap with temperatures as low as -8C, accompanied by widespread frost, ice and snow. However, a dramatic shift is expected within days, with temperatures set to swing by 18C.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Please take extra care on the roads this morning especially on those which may not have been gritted. Clear your windscreen of ice before you set off and remember to slow down and increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead."

Parts of Wales are set for another cold snap on Thursday, with two weather warnings in place for snow and ice. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice for parts of north, west and mid Wales from 00:15 GMT on Thursday until 11:00.
