The Israeli military has forced Palestinians to enter potentially booby-trapped houses and tunnels in Gaza to avoid putting its troops in harm’s way, according to an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier and five former detainees who said they were victims of the practice.

The Israeli military named on Wednesday six Palestinians in Gaza as Al Jazeera reporters who it said were also members of the Hamas or Islamic Jihad militant groups, an allegation which the Qatari network rejected as an attempt to silence journalists.

The news organization strongly denied the accusations, which it said were based on “fabricated evidence” and followed a long history of Israeli hostility toward the network.

Israel's military said it uncovered documents that it says proves six journalists with the Middle East-based news source Al Jazeera are operatives with Hamas and other Palestinian-linked terror squads.

After Israel shut down Al Jazeera's office in Israel earlier this year, the IDF has released a document that claims six reporters for the organization are members of two terror organizations.

Al Jazeera has firmly rejected allegations made by the Israeli military against six of its journalists in Gaza. The network labeled these claims as 'unfounded' and an attempt to undermine its reporting,
