Overall Oscars commentary (Updated Feb. 11, 2025): Final Oscar voting is underway. Since July, six films have occupied the No. 1 spot on Variety’s best picture charts, “Anora” among them.

From a Jewish architect and a Brooklyn stripper to a couple of Ozian witches and a whole bunch of wannabe popes, this Oscar season is giving us everything. Everything but an actual front-runner.

And yes, I’m still doing the nomination and Oscar night prediction contests with my Oscar frenemy, Danny. But unlike the selective categories I predict here, he and I predict all of them.
