The MTA is looking into replacing NYC's subway turnstiles with gates that would physically open to let passengers through.

The update is the latest in a years-long plan to remove the familiar turnstile and replace it with the kinds of toll gates seen in transit systems throughout the world — gates that use plexiglass

The new fare gates feature elements that make it much harder for subway riders to jump over the turnstiles and avoiding paying.
