Before the season started there were plenty of questions surrounding the No. 8 Texas Longhorns (19-3, 5-1). They were entering the campaign with a new coaching staff headlined by Jim Schlossnagle and their first as members of the SEC.

The University of Texas fired basketball coach Rodney Terry after a disappointing first season in the Southeastern Conference and another quick exit from the NCAA Tournament.

For just the second time in school history, UT had scored 100 points in an NCAA Tournament game. Texas, by the way, has now played 87 games over its 37 NCAA Tournament appearances. Yet, Vic Schaefer still had plenty to nitpick following a 105-61 win that advanced Texas (32-3) into a second-round showdown against Illinois (22-9).
