Exclusive: San Jose’s first Michelin-starred restaurant, Adega, is making a comeback
In its initial eight years in business, Adega won, lost and won back a Michelin star. The restaurant first received the honor in 2016, lost the star in 2018, then regained it in 2021. The Carreiras announced the 2023 closure just a few days before the Michelins were announced that summer.

Adega, San Jose’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, plans to reopen more than a year after announcing its permanent closure. The owners of the Portuguese restaurant announced Tuesday that Adega is expected to make its triumphant return at its previous location at 1614 Alum Rock Ave.

But Adega isn’t the only Michelin-starred restaurant to mount a comeback this year. Ajay Walia and Reena Miglani also brought back their award-winning restaurant Rasa in October, after a similar, temporary shift to a second location of their casual restaurant Saffron.
