Five of the ALW activists, including founder Ms Lee, who are mostly in their 30 and 40s, have moved to the village to care for the Flower Cows and are now among the village’s youngest residents.

The village hall committee has organised a Cash Cow draw which all villagers have been invited to take part in.

Around 200-250 families, majority of Muslims, in Hatwa village have one or two cows at their doorstep. They all believe that cows bring opulence and prosperity.

She said villagers pooled 150,000 riel ($35), and she contributed 200,000 riel ($50) for a ceremony with six Buddhist monks to give thanks and wishes for the soul of the God Cow.
