Anchor/Reporter MONKTON, Md. — For many, gardening and Mother's Day go hand-in-hand, and it doesn't get much better than at Ladew Topiary Gardens and its 22 acres of award-winning gardens.

Evidence for the use of topiary in Europe dates back to Ancient Rome, where writing by Pliny the Elder describes shrubs shaped into animals, figures, inscriptions, and obelisks.
