A lost tool bag in space shines brightly in a new image taken from Rome. Two astronauts spacewalking on the International Space Station harmlessly lost grip of a tool bag during a Nov. 1 spacewalk.
This isn't the first time an astronaut has lost tools in space. In 2008, Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper's bag floated away while she was cleaning and lubricating gears on a malfunctioning rotary joint.
The tool bag, which is valued at about $100,000, is now orbiting earth just ahead of the space station and is so bright that stargazers can catch a glimpse of the runaway gear using just binoculars.

A NASA representative estimated the value of the bag and contents at "around $100,000" if it were to be purchased today. In all, the bag and tools weighed 42.9 pounds.
The current outlook puts its reentry around March 2024. Since it’s white, the tool bag is reflective—and likely visible from Earth with the aid of binoculars, according to EarthSky.
