Starbucks updated thier Coffeehouse Code of Conduct across North American locations. The biggest change? No more Open Door Policy. Is this a sign of DEI changes?

The new rules reverse an open-door policy put in place in 2018, after two black men were arrested at a Philadelphia Starbucks where they had gone for a business meeting.

Starbucks Corp. reversed a policy allowing anyone, even those who hadn’t purchased anything, to use its cafes, patios and restrooms. The company issued a new code of conduct as part of its plan to make stores more welcoming and win back consumers,

The new code of conduct also bans discrimination or harassment, consumption of alcohol, smoking, drug use, and panhandling in company owned stores.

Starbucks, long synonymous with the idea of a "third space" between home and work, has reversed its open-door policy.

Starbucks is changing its policy so that people who use the store to go to the bathroom or hang out must purchase something. It marks a change from its open-door policy in place since 2018. The updated policy is part of the company's new Coffeehouse Code of Conduct,
