Los Angeles Metro is testing new concealed weapons technology this week as the transit agency attempts to increase security on a system that has been beleaguered by violence. Metro will demonstrate the safety system to the media on Tuesday as it goes through its first tests at Union Station this week.

Similar to security implemented in amusement parks, the concealed weapons detection system will screen passengers as they walk through pillars. “That pillar will send a signal,” said Robert Gummer, Metro's deputy chief of system security and law enforcement.
