The Marlins and Bender avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. Bender had been eligible for arbitration for the first time.

In his first two big-league seasons with the Fish in 2021 and 2022, Bender had a 2.90 ERA (3.57 FIP), 1.12 WHIP, nine saves, 28 walks and 88 K's in 80 2/3 relief innings.
