Putin earned his fifth dan in kyokushin in 2001 and his seventh in 2009 before reaching the eighth this year, according to the TASS Russia News Agency. He holds a black belt in karate, as well.
Kyokushin is a martial art founded in Japan by Korean Masutatsu Oyama in 1964. Kyokushin means 'ultimate truth,' and the martial art is known for being extremely difficult and taxing on the body.
One reason for that is his Sensei, and father, Kenny Buffaloe. who introduced the Japanese martial arts sport ‘Kyokushin” to North Carolina in the 1970s.
