In some cases, the new background color won't be visible, because the business card template has blocky designs layered over the actual card background, especially if you use a Publisher template.

Highlight the entire business card, from the bottom text through the top, including the new graphic. Press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys to copy it. Click into the next graphic-less card on the template.
