The Vancouver Canucks didn't exactly get the jolliest news coming off of a short holiday break, with a few key players missing.

The Vancouver Canucks returned to practice on Friday after their holiday break without two key players. Both Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson were not on the ice and are projected to miss Saturday's matchup with the Seattle Kraken.

Whatever Elias Pettersson hurt during Monday’s 4-3 Vancouver Canucks win over the San Jose Sharks and whatever Quinn Hughes hurt during Saturday’s 5-4 loss to the Ottawa Senators are apparently lingering.

Pettersson responded by breaking the game wide-open for the Canucks late in the second period. Kiefer Sherwood ’s 2-1 goal was a key turning point because the club had only mustered 13 shots entering the final TV timeout of the second period, but it was Pettersson who made sure to put the game out of reach.

Top defenseman Quinn Hughes and No.1 center Elias Pettersson are unlikely to play for the Canucks against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday (4 p.m. ET; SNP, KONG, KING 5, KHN). Neither player took part in practice Friday.
