Wildfires menacing Los Angeles have killed at least 10 people and devoured nearly 10,000 structures, with five fires burning into a third night on Thursday, as dry desert winds fanning the flames again gathered strength.

Nearly 2,000 homes, businesses, and other structures have been destroyed in the Eaton and Palisades fires, and the number is expected to increase. The five deaths recorded so far were from the Eaton Fire.

The death toll in the devastating California wildfires has risen to five, as the flames continue to engulf the Los Angeles area and threaten the Hollywood Hills. Officials had previously confirmed two fatalities from the fires.
