A Maine police lieutenant was critically injured in a crash Monday, according to authorities. The Buckfield Fire Department said in a social media post around 4:45 p.m. Monday that the Turner Fire Department responded to two major crashes in different areas of Turner Center Road.

A police helicopter landed near the crash site between Exits 55 and 56 and took the officer to a hospital, police said.

A Suffolk County police officer was involved in a crash in Brentwood on Sunday evening. It happened on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 55 just after 6 p.m. First responders quickly transported the injured officer via helicopter to an area hospital for treatment of serious physical injuries.
