We were planning to visit during our trip to Europe this summer (July). We will be based in Zurich and wanted to do a day trip but from the way it sounds the lines for all activities are super long. Is this the case even for the gondola up if we just wanted to do the walk? We would be visiting on a weekday. Reading everyone stating to get here "early" -assume that means right at opening (appears to be 8:30am)? What about going later in the day? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

At the start of July we encountered very little wait for the gondola. But there is so much to do in this area that it would be a shame to only visit it for a day trip.
