Casa Ramirez FOLKART Gallery was founded in 1985 by Macario Ramirez. Located in the Heights since the early 1990's, Casa Ramirez is well known for its exhibits and retail merchandise highlighting the folk art and culture of Mexico, Latin America , Texas and the US Southwest. Macario passed away in June, 2020 and his wife, Chrissie Dickerson Ramirez, continues the business in his honor. Macario was born in San Antonio TX. Parents were both from Mexico. Part of his youth was spent as a migrant worker, travelling to Michigan for summer harvests. Valuing education, his parents always made sure the family returned back to Texas in time for school enrollment. After a career in marketing and public relations, Macario followed a passion for the culture and history of Mexico and opened Casa Ramirez. He is well known for his community and political activism and for promoting Latino cultural traditions, especially the legacy of the Vaquero and the experiences of Dia de los Muertos.
