Yes, the museum is open since the earthquake, and Christmas time is a great time to come to Alaska. This winter has actually been unusually warm and you are unlikely to see temperatures bellow 10 degrees Fahrenheit even in December is my bet. In fact, our precious snow keeps melting. But the weather is always nice in the museum, and even though the daylight hours are short you may get lucky and see some northern lights at night!

Hi there! I'm a museum employee. We have a few different areas under construction or renovation this summer. The Alaska Gallery on the 2nd floor will reopen on September 15. The new Rasmuson Wing, which offers 25,000 square feet of gallery space, will open on September 15 as well. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact the museum with any other questions!

How do you attach the dog team rides? I haven't found much information on scheduling specifics for this activity. What days and times are they offered? Thanks.

If you go to the Anchorage Museum website you can pull up by date what is on the exhibit schedule. A quick look shows there is Beyond the Arctic Circle, River of Bears, Cosmic Colors, Experience the Aurora: Plus!, etc. There is also a curators tour and guided summer tours offered at select times. There's quite a lot offered. Definitely check out the website for descriptions and exact dates and times. I hope you enjoy our fair city. Have fun!
